The owner wanted a fence that served more to establish a sense of space for the house than to keep anything in or out. A trellis was wanted to grow roses on, and overall, the fence was not to be too high or too visuallysolid. Together, they drove around and studied several fences, noting all that they liked and disliked about each of them, until arriving upon the perfect combination of details and materials that worked to produce the effect she wanted.
