We arrived and found a plywood "closet" acting as a room divider between the bedroom and the bathroom fixtures that had been screwed together with plywood and 2x2's. The wall had obstructed much of the light that came in through the sliding glass doors and was not in keeping with the heavy texture and dark open beams of this mediterranean styled house. The owner of the house wanted to see what could be done to clean up the place and make it into a guest room. The room still needed to be divided, as the bathroom fixtures were in the same room, and a closet needed to be provided for guests. What we came up with was a low lying closet, tall enough to hang clothes, yet low to let as much light as possible pass into the room from the sliding glass doors. A stained glass panel was installed above the closet, between the bathroom and guest room, to break up the wall, and to add a unique feature. In the bathroom, we installed a tall glass panel of textured glass to allow natural light to pass into the room. To blend in with the existing look of the house, we made the bathroom doorway arched and custom-made a rustic redwood door to fit, using old style, rustic handles and hinges. The closet doors and opening was also made in this manner. We were also asked to assist in choosing colors for the rest of the house, which was all white. We chose colors that would go with the meditteranean look of the house, yet were unique to the personality of the owner.
